Determination of the odour behaviour of materials
of motor vehicle interior trim
In an odour test according to VDA 270, the odour of a material is determined by a trained test panel and evaluated with grades. According to VDA 270, the scale for the odour test ranges from grade 1 "imperceptible" to grade 6 "unbearable". A typical threshold value for the odour test according to VDA 270 is the odour grade < 3.0.
VDA 270 is, for example, a direct part of the standards of various OEMs such as DaimlerChrysler, BMW and Porsche. Other regulations describing the odour test according to VDA 270 (partly in slightly modified form): SAE J1351; Ford: BO 131-01; GM/Opel: GME 60276; GMW 3205; Toyota: TSM 0505G; Volvo: VCS 1027,2729; VW/Audi: PV 3900.
Depending on the OEM's regulations, there may be different rating scales for the odour test (e.g. from 0 to 5 or -3 to +3).
