Paints and varnishes - Testing of stone impact resistance of coatings - Part 1: Multi-impact test.

The stone impact test according to DIN EN ISO 20567-1 simulates damage to painted vehicle body parts as they may occur in road traffic due to grit, road gravel or similar impurities. In part 1 of the stone impact test, also known as the multi-impact test, 500 g of chilled cast iron granulate with a grain size of 3.5 - 5.0 mm is shot onto the specimen surface in two runs using air pressure of 1 bar for procedure A and 2 bar for procedure B. The test is carried out in two runs.

Procedure C of the stone impact test according to DIN EN ISO 20567-1 provides for a climatic stress between the two runs, e.g. a corrosion test, artificial weathering or heat ageing.

The device design is predetermined so that the impact angle between the beam axis and the specimen of 54 ° on the specimen surface is maintained. The test field has a maximum size of 80 x 80 mm. A pressure accumulator with connected pressure reducer and pressure gauge ensure a uniform air pressure during the bombardment.

Loosely adhering coating particles are removed after the bombardment before the damage pattern is analysed according to DIN EN ISO 20567-1. Brushes, the use of adhesive tape or compressed air can be used for this purpose. The bombarded area is assessed on the basis of comparative images. The characteristic value ranges from 0.5 (corresponds to a damaged area of 0.2 %) to 5.0 (corresponds to a damaged area of 81.3 %).

We will be happy to provide you with a non-binding offer for tests according to DIN EN ISO 20567-1, tailored to your requirements.
